No-Code App Development
How Does No-Code Work?
Traditionally, developing business applications could only be achieved through coding. This meant that only highly skilled IT professionals were able to build these solutions, making it impossible for users without the technical skillset to build or maintain applications to meet their business needs. And although IT teams have the means of developing these tools, technology needs frequently outpace delivery capacity.
Whilst Checkbox is a no-code platform, it is important to understand that not all no-code platforms are alike. There are no-code platforms that focus on mobile app development, or business process management, however, Checkbox focuses on expert decision automation and workflow, or to use our own term, EPA.
What is Expert Process Automation?
EPA is a technology platform that enables the digitization and automation of expert knowledge and processes. Using EPA, a company can automate an entire process/es without the reliance on programming skills that emulate the work of a subject-matter expert. This is done by using a no-code, drag and drop graphical user interface (GUI) to implement content, if-then logic, integrations and workflow actions.
A good way to think about EPA is that it is the other half of the relatively recent and popular RPA – robotic process automation. But whilst RPA is about replicating the exact linear actions a human user would take, EPA is about replicating the exact decisions and actions that an expert would take; or allow them to seek guidance from other experts. So rather than automating the copying and pasting of cells from a spreadsheet into a legacy invoicing system, it is automating the right questions that should be asked in determining an entity’s tax position, collecting that information, and producing a letter of advice.
EPA is also similar but different from expert systems. Whilst expert systems emulate the decision-making of an expert, they are limited to providing advice. EPA goes beyond this and fundamentally addresses the question: “What processes require experts?” and the answer to this question may or may not include advice but may also include a variety of other actions such as providing documents or executing an end-to-end process. However, EPA is not an isolated tool. Much like RPA and AI, it will compliment your tech stack, giving you multiple functionalities and allowing you to have a wider IT landscape.
Benefits of No-Code for IT Teams
Why The Future Is No-Code
There is no doubt that enterprise software development has become more challenging. With increasing pressure for more compliant tools in highly regulated industries, budget cuts, lack of the appropriate staff, changing requirements and increased pressure for faster deployment, IT teams are working around the clock yet still unable to keep up with the workload. Furthermore, as modern technologies emerge, the management of legacy systems is becoming time consuming and more costly than the no-code alternative. It is important to note that traditional coding practices are not going anywhere and will be needed for more complex integrations, but with business users increasing ten-fold compared to developers, IT teams can leverage no-code to build low complexity applications within minutes instead of weeks and focus on mission critical projects instead.
